2/24/15 Grant the Conquistador

Hello everyone!

More Traditional work this week!

Grant's costume for what ever reason has just never gelled quite right.  Its been all over the place from clunky to slick but never being right for his character or environment.  his last iteration was more along the lines of the classic Roman or Greek Hero garb, yet that still didn't work.  When drawing him it always felt clunky and just never flowed quite right.  And then it finally came to me while while working out with Brendan.  The only era that I as an artist haven't set foot in is the Spanish Age of Exploration.  It was perfect- conquistadors! It was everything I had been looking for: armored yet mobile, protection from every environment possible (minus snow) yet iconic.  Grant will be going back to a single handed sword that's equipped with a hilt that can extend into being a sort of pike.

His redesign came almost instantly, and it flows extremely well when drawn.  This set of drawings below were quick sketches with some digital coloring thrown on to get the look across.  The more finished piece will be coming next week.

Bonnie on the other hand is moving along nicely sharpening everyday.

2/3/15 Bonnie Redesign!

Hey all!

This week was supposed to be a Grant week but ended up turning into a Bonnie week!

One of the new directions that was discussed a while ago was to change Bonnie into a sort of Kaiten Hunter. A few drawings were done, but nothing really concrete or very finished was ever done.  The top draws depict the more femme fatale direction she's now taken that came very naturally and the overall change to her style.  The second set of drawings are exploring how her armor actually works.  I've since abandoned the overly spiky look, it just didn't make too much sense (top right drawing).

Pushing along the idea of scorpion was the addition of her Mechano Claws that I've designed after the Jaws of Life used by emergency response teams.  Instead of using the same claw twice, she uses two different claws that are used for different functions.  As labeled she now sports a Crush Claw and a Pry Claw.  One to cut and mangle and the other to pry or hold a set of Kaiten jaws at bay.  I've also added two "head guards" whose purpose is to keep larger creatures from being able to go for the throat or the base of her head tail.

The Grant turn around begins this week!

1/13/15 More cleaned up!

Hey all!

This week I've done a little clean up work on the piece I posted last week!  More to come soon!

Most of the fixes this week were gridding out the perspective and making sure everything overlapped correctly.  The next step will be finishing up each of the character line art, and then finally doing a rough color set to see if I want to actually ink it! So far so good!

12/30/14 Last Post of the Year!

Hey everyone!

Late Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!  Due to how life has gone recently I'm officially making Tuesday my posting day!  Its been a crazy few weeks and I've had to squeeze in time to get work done!

This is actually a set of sketches of my Bearded Dragon- Lady Dirk.  I'm currently designing a logo for my mother's etsy.com store that features costumes for Bearded Dragons!

So for the new year, the first set of projects that will be completed are the animation I began a few months ago but haven't had too much time to work on along with a set of new turn arounds for Grant and Elsa as their designs have changed significantly since they were last done.  And finally a few acting shots of the gang illustrating possible scenes for the show!

Its been an incredible year and I'd like thank everyone who have given me feedback or even stopped by to just take a look.  It means a lot!

12/9/14 Some Digital sketches and more traditional work!

Hey all!

As the title suggests- more digital and traditional work!

  Possible Kaiten King adviser designs.

Adviser prelims.

More Grant work and some scale re-configuring!

Kingslayer is now at a point where the next step will be the creation of a pitch bible.  I'll be doing a few images for this book in the near future!  Its been a long road, but we can finally see the end of it!

More work next week!

12/1/14 Its been a month, but I'm back!

Hey all!

My computer is finally working again.  After a fried board, an RMA'd board and then RAM corruption I'm finally back!

I'll jump right into it!  This week will be entirely traditional work and consist of mostly ink and brush pen work!

Some Metroid and Fantasy Life fan art!

After the release of Blizzard's Overwatch Trailer I felt the need to take Vortize and Tarnished in a new direction.  While keeping all of the same sensibilities I'm moving into more of a post universe setting- What happens when everything ends?  What would that look like?  Whats left? Where is everything right now? These are the questions I was asking myself as I drew this next set of images.

These last two are a couple of super rough concepts to get me into the mood of this world.

This week I'll be jumping back into the computer realm and finishing up my loose ends!  And of course more traditional work!

Until Next Time!

11/11/14 Fried Motherboard!

Hey all!

The blog has been quiet now for 2 weeks, not out of my own choosing but due to a fried mother board.  Unfortunately the day after halloween my computer decided to die on me and after receiving a dead on arrival replacment its turned into a larger problem.  SO hopefull next week my computer will be back in order with a longer than usual post!

10/28/14 Color Mapping!

Hey all!

This week I've color mapped the Allure and Tyranny piece from last week!

These are by no means the colors that this finalized piece will have.  The intent is to label which areas will have corresponding colors and how they'll fit together as a whole.  The finalized color palette is currently being worked on and I'm adjusting the line work as needed!

I plan on doing a set of these featuring the characters of Tarnished!

Animation is still being worked on!  Currently filling in more key frames when I get time here and there!

Until Next Time!

More work towards Tarnished this week!

Line work beginnings for a Lust and Tyranny character piece

A closer look at the body structure for Lust.

10/14/14 Super Rough Playblast!

Hey all!
As the title suggests this is the super rough playblast.  It still needs to be timed out a bit more and is currently missing a few keyframes, but Pass #1 is nearly complete and I'll be starting Pass #2 (Facial emotion and smaller details) very soon!  Here it is with audio!

Lots more work to be done!

Until Next Time!

10/9/14 As Promised!

Hey all!

So unfortunately I wasn't able to fix my Maya problems until a little too late, but the good news is its fixed!  So Monday there will be a bit more 3D in the mix!  Right now though I have a bit of concept work for Asla's pirate crew!

First up is Bracket!  Cannoneer and marksmen, Bracket is the heavy guns crew member who's design is taken from a Stegosaurus.

Spraggen!  Asla's First Mate who has a bit of a Napoleon complex being only 3 feet tall.  His design of course is taken from a Triceratops... on a tiny scale.

Crow!  The ship's lookout and silent observer, Crow is the sole wielder of the telescope.  A Pterodactyl of course!

Hardhead!  The ship's pipe smoking engineer and all around handyman who is shaping up to be the only crew member Crow confides in.  His design is taken from an Ankylosaurus.

The only crew member missing so far is Gregor the fat bombastic cook!  His design will be from a  Pachycephalosaurus.

Next week will have more animation and 3D!

Until Next Time!

9/30/14 Animation Update

Hey all!

This week was filled with a lot of gesture drawings and finishing up my key frames for the animation!

In my 2D work I've begun working on concepts for Asla's pirate crew!  As her crew is made up of bestial dinosaur humanoids I'm currently experimenting and researching ways to keep them looking dinosaur enough without making them look "furry".  Its been a fun challenge and I've been looking to a few difference sources including The Legend of Zelda and Dark Stalkers.  I'll be posting more finished concepts next week!

In the animation portion of my work, progress has been steadily moving along as I am now entering phase 2 of the short with timing out the animation.  Next week I'll have the playblast posted!  This week I have some screen shots of the key frames!

More finalized concepts and a timed out playblast for next week!

Until Next Time!

9/22/14 More Ink washes along with more Kingslayer concepts!

Hello everyone!

As usual its been a busy week!  Work on the animation is coming along steadily!  I forgot what it was like to sit down and have 8 hours pass like nothing.  I've got more ink washes this week!

These are style concepts for two of the factions of the Carverkin race.

Again, same tool/weapon but two different styles.

The very first concept of a crewmember of Asla's, an ankylosaur engineer.

I'll hopefully be posting a playblast of the work done on the Kaos animation for next week, and of course more traditional work!

Until Next Time!
