12/30/14 Last Post of the Year!

Hey everyone!

Late Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!  Due to how life has gone recently I'm officially making Tuesday my posting day!  Its been a crazy few weeks and I've had to squeeze in time to get work done!

This is actually a set of sketches of my Bearded Dragon- Lady Dirk.  I'm currently designing a logo for my mother's etsy.com store that features costumes for Bearded Dragons!

So for the new year, the first set of projects that will be completed are the animation I began a few months ago but haven't had too much time to work on along with a set of new turn arounds for Grant and Elsa as their designs have changed significantly since they were last done.  And finally a few acting shots of the gang illustrating possible scenes for the show!

Its been an incredible year and I'd like thank everyone who have given me feedback or even stopped by to just take a look.  It means a lot!

Until Next Time!

12/9/14 Some Digital sketches and more traditional work!

Hey all!

As the title suggests- more digital and traditional work!

  Possible Kaiten King adviser designs.

Adviser prelims.

More Grant work and some scale re-configuring!

Kingslayer is now at a point where the next step will be the creation of a pitch bible.  I'll be doing a few images for this book in the near future!  Its been a long road, but we can finally see the end of it!

More work next week!
Until Next Time!

12/1/14 Its been a month, but I'm back!

Hey all!

My computer is finally working again.  After a fried board, an RMA'd board and then RAM corruption I'm finally back!

I'll jump right into it!  This week will be entirely traditional work and consist of mostly ink and brush pen work!

Some Metroid and Fantasy Life fan art!

After the release of Blizzard's Overwatch Trailer I felt the need to take Vortize and Tarnished in a new direction.  While keeping all of the same sensibilities I'm moving into more of a post universe setting- What happens when everything ends?  What would that look like?  Whats left? Where is everything right now? These are the questions I was asking myself as I drew this next set of images.

These last two are a couple of super rough concepts to get me into the mood of this world.

This week I'll be jumping back into the computer realm and finishing up my loose ends!  And of course more traditional work!

Until Next Time!

11/11/14 Fried Motherboard!

Hey all!

The blog has been quiet now for 2 weeks, not out of my own choosing but due to a fried mother board.  Unfortunately the day after halloween my computer decided to die on me and after receiving a dead on arrival replacment its turned into a larger problem.  SO hopefull next week my computer will be back in order with a longer than usual post!

Until Next Time!

10/28/14 Color Mapping!

Hey all!

This week I've color mapped the Allure and Tyranny piece from last week!

These are by no means the colors that this finalized piece will have.  The intent is to label which areas will have corresponding colors and how they'll fit together as a whole.  The finalized color palette is currently being worked on and I'm adjusting the line work as needed!

I plan on doing a set of these featuring the characters of Tarnished!

Animation is still being worked on!  Currently filling in more key frames when I get time here and there!

Until Next Time!

10/21/14 More line and concept work!

Hey all!

Not too much to report this week!  More work on the animation completed and I'm currently re-managing my time to get more work done per week!  Life got complicated and crazy without me realizing it!

More work towards Tarnished this week!

Line work beginnings for a Lust and Tyranny character piece

A closer look at the body structure for Lust.

More next week!

10/14/14 Super Rough Playblast!

Hey all!
As the title suggests this is the super rough playblast.  It still needs to be timed out a bit more and is currently missing a few keyframes, but Pass #1 is nearly complete and I'll be starting Pass #2 (Facial emotion and smaller details) very soon!  Here it is with audio!

Lots more work to be done!

Until Next Time!

10/9/14 As Promised!

Hey all!

So unfortunately I wasn't able to fix my Maya problems until a little too late, but the good news is its fixed!  So Monday there will be a bit more 3D in the mix!  Right now though I have a bit of concept work for Asla's pirate crew!

First up is Bracket!  Cannoneer and marksmen, Bracket is the heavy guns crew member who's design is taken from a Stegosaurus.

Spraggen!  Asla's First Mate who has a bit of a Napoleon complex being only 3 feet tall.  His design of course is taken from a Triceratops... on a tiny scale.

Crow!  The ship's lookout and silent observer, Crow is the sole wielder of the telescope.  A Pterodactyl of course!

Hardhead!  The ship's pipe smoking engineer and all around handyman who is shaping up to be the only crew member Crow confides in.  His design is taken from an Ankylosaurus.

The only crew member missing so far is Gregor the fat bombastic cook!  His design will be from a  Pachycephalosaurus.

Next week will have more animation and 3D!

Until Next Time!

9/30/14 Animation Update

Hey all!

This week was filled with a lot of gesture drawings and finishing up my key frames for the animation!

In my 2D work I've begun working on concepts for Asla's pirate crew!  As her crew is made up of bestial dinosaur humanoids I'm currently experimenting and researching ways to keep them looking dinosaur enough without making them look "furry".  Its been a fun challenge and I've been looking to a few difference sources including The Legend of Zelda and Dark Stalkers.  I'll be posting more finished concepts next week!

In the animation portion of my work, progress has been steadily moving along as I am now entering phase 2 of the short with timing out the animation.  Next week I'll have the playblast posted!  This week I have some screen shots of the key frames!

More finalized concepts and a timed out playblast for next week!

Until Next Time!

9/22/14 More Ink washes along with more Kingslayer concepts!

Hello everyone!

As usual its been a busy week!  Work on the animation is coming along steadily!  I forgot what it was like to sit down and have 8 hours pass like nothing.  I've got more ink washes this week!

These are style concepts for two of the factions of the Carverkin race.

Again, same tool/weapon but two different styles.

The very first concept of a crewmember of Asla's, an ankylosaur engineer.

I'll hopefully be posting a playblast of the work done on the Kaos animation for next week, and of course more traditional work!

Until Next Time!

9/8/14 Animation! and Storyboards for the first animation!

Hello everybody!

This week I've got boards and a screenshot of the from start of the animation!

To give a little background on this piece, its originally from a Skylanders Swap Force Cinematic.
The animation on the character of Kaos bugged me so much that I felt the need to reframe, reboard and reanimate the scene to better get across the intention to the audience.  Everything here is my own take on the scene.

Norman has proven to be my new favorite rig.

More to come next week!

Until Next Time!

9/1/14 Flatbook Pages, another Art piece begins and Animation returns!

Hey everyone!

So this week I've been going over exactly what I want to animate and I've come to a couple ideas.  One is I'll be reanimating some scenes from a couple of different video game cinematics that have really bugged me every time I see them.  The other idea is to animate a little bit of some of my favorite comedian stand up.  I've also chosen my rig- Norman!  So for next week expect to see some story boards for the first animation!

I've also finished up Thorn's flatbook pages!  So he's officially wrapped up for the time being!

If you'd like to see Thorn's turn around check out the showcase page or scroll down!

Next up is the new art piece I've begun working on, just line work at the moment!

Next week expect to see some new boards along with some sketchbook work! (Possibly some rough animation as well!)

Until Next Time!

8/26/14 Rigging, more drawing and a return to Animation!

Hello All!

This week was the return to work!  I decided to take a shot at rigging Thorn for the purpose of posing and animation!

After rerigging him nearly 6 times I realized that I really don't enjoy rigging and for the time being I will be stepping away from it.  During this rigging process I realized just how much I love animating and plan to jump back into it this week!  The entire time it felt like I was trying to fix a toy that all I wanted to do was play with!

And in the 2D corner, I decided to take a small sketch of Asla to the next stage!  I'll be going back and touching up this image for a later post!

More to come next week!

Until Next Time!

8/18/14 Returned from Siggraph and getting back to work!

Hey everyone!

It's been quite a busy two weeks filled with some awesome experiences!  Siggraph was absolutely fantastic and I was able to receive some great feedback!  But it's back to business!

So, unfortunately due to the hiatus I wasn't able to get as much work as I would have liked but I'm back on the ball ready to roll! Those of you who haven't seen Thorn's render you should take a look at the prior post or go to the Showcase page of this blog!

This week is going to mainly be 3D modeling work as I plan and schedule my next big piece!

You may recognize this little character from a sketch a few weeks back!  I've begun just modeling out some of my favorites.  If you'd like to see more of these check out the Random Works page to check out my many pages of gestural sketching that include this character!

With this little guy I mainly focused on poly count reduction.  I was able to majorly reduce his polys from a couple weeks prior!

More to come next week!

Until Next Time!

8/4/14 Finished Render of Thorn, Siggraph and the weekly Gestures!

Hey everyone and those of you I meet from the future!

As promised this week Thorn is finished!  The next phase will be rigging, but for right now hes done!  I'll be updating my flatbook/Artwork page with a couple page spread for Thorn with the trials and tribulations that came with him!

I depart for Siggraph on Wednesday and I return a week and a half later!  Next Monday the Blog will be silent as I journey in the mystical land of Canada.  For those of you who are checking out the blog in the future after getting one of my business cards- WELCOME! And please take a look around, there's a lot of work posted here!

Before it gets buried by Thorn renders, gesture work first!
This week the gestures are from "Tarnished"!

And now for the big fish!

For those interested the pilot script is completed!  And please feel free to contact Brendan Hayworth about it! Follow the link below to check it out!

Like I said above I'll be gone next Monday (8/11/14) so there wont be any new posts!  But expect them to return the following week!

Final note!  A very happy birthday to my mother! 8/5  Its strange how she continues to turn 35 each year...

Until Next Time!
